Pressure washers are our indispensable cleaning partner. As an important part of pressure washer, choosing the right hose is as crucial as having a quality machine. It shows that 80% hose problem caused by choosing a wrong hose. So, how to choose the right washer hose?
1. Pressure Requirements
Consider the specific features you need based on your pressure washer’s demands. The working pressure of your washer hose need to be higher than your machine. For example, you can just choose the hoses above 4200Psi, if the working pressure of your power washer is 4200Psi.
2. Length of the Hose
· Small/Personal Tasks:
Usually, a 20 to 50 ft hose is typically sufficient for small houses or vehicles. These lengths are manageable and do not reduce water pressure significantly.
· Longer/Commercial Tasks:
For luxury yard, or cleaning company owners, 100ft hoses or longer hoses are better for you to do long-distance outdoor operations. Therefore, a reel is vital. Or you will face entangled hoses everyday.
3. Hose Diameter
The diameter of your hose is indispensable. We’d better choose the new hose matched with the old one in size.
· 1/4 inch: Typically used for residential purposes. Ideal for gas-powered or electric washers up to 2,700 PSI.
· 5/16 inch: Suitable for washers generating up to 3,400 PSI.
· 3/8 inch: Designed for commercial washers and those producing 4,000 PSI or more.
· 1/2 Inch: Mainly used for high-flow applications and heavy-duty operations, such as construction machinery, industrial equipment, agriculture and farming.
4. Material of the Hose cover
It affects the durability and flexibility of the washer hose:
· PVC Plastic: Common but less wear-resistant.
· Rubber: The wrapped ones is durable and flexible, but they can leave marks on surfaces. The smooth ones leave no marks on surfaces, It has very high demands on the manufacturer's technology; otherwise, its wear resistance will be inferior to the wrapped type.
· PU (Polyurethane): Flexibility, lightweight and doesn’t mar surfaces, making it a favorite for both professionals and homeowners.
· TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane): As a the last material of hose cover, it’s more wear resistant than PU (Polyurethane).
5. Material of the reinforcement layer
· Fiber/Textile braid: More flexible and lighter. It is designed for individual users.
· Steel wire braid: More durable but heavier. It’s more suitable for business and industrial use.
6. TEMPERATURE RANGE
If you just wash with cold water, it’s not a big problem. But in cold regions, it's necessary to wash vehicles with hot water in winter. The hoses that can withstand temperatures above 120ºC are more durable.
7. Type of Connections
Ensure the type of connections are compatible with your equipment, or you will face the problem of leakage. Pressure washer hoses come with two main connections: one for the water inlet, and the other for the nozzle or gun. Pay attention to whether the connectors are male or female, and the type of thread or quick connect plug.
